Warner Baptist Church members will celebrate the church's Homecoming Day on July 12, 2015

Article 5, Volume 5
Warner Baptist Homecoming Day

Homecoming Day is a joyous occasion at Warner Baptist.  Many former members, families, friends and whosoever will come out and celebrate with Warner Baptist members.

The pastor, Rev. Matthew Pearson, I believe, will render the message in the morning service.

Rev. William Swan, pastor of First Ashville Baptist Church in Marshall, Virginia will be the guest preacher in the afternoon service.

He will be accompanied by members of his church.

Food will be served between the services.

I am looking forward to being there and greeting some of my old friends and having a wonderful day in rendering praises and thanks to God for his blessings.

Conclusion: Homecoming services are generally more joyous than home going services.  So, let us strive to greet each other more often between the services. (Grady's collection of Thoughts 101).

Regardless of Intent: It is not always what you say, instead it is how you say it that matters

Article 3 Volume 5

Public Speaking Requires Continuous Practice

I have been practicing public speaking for over 50 years and I still need to keep on practicing.

In high school, I was considered by teachers and classmates to be one of the best orators in the region.  I had a gift for creating phrases on the spot and making attention capturing oral presentations.
While still a student in high school, this gift encouraged me to write a weekly column for two local newspapers plus more articles during the week.

In writing, you have time to change your expressions.  In speaking, that is not always the case.

But let me come back to me later.  I'm going to share an incident involving an innocent little eight- year- old country bred and raised girl, named Rehola.  One day she was outside playing with 6 other children.  They were  having a good time playing together.

Out of the blue, she asked one of the boys if he was gay.  after she asked, all the kids ran in the house and left her alone. They told the parents inside what Rehola had said.  Everyone was astonished that she would ask such a question.

So, Rehola's father and two other parents went outside to question her. She was still sitting at the table with the games and toys wondering what all the commotion was about.

Her father asked her if she had asked Bardolis if he was gay.  She replied, "Everybody appeared to be having a good time so I asked him if he was HAPPY?"

One of the children who had witnessed the event, said, "No, you asked him if he was gay?"

Rehola answered, "Well, yes, GAY and HAPPY mean the same thing. That's what we learned in school."

She was completely unaware of any other meaning or thought for the word.

The parents looked at each other, kept their mouths shut and went on back in the house.

The children resumed playing and Rehola was in the midst.  They all appeared to be gay.

But if you in the city, you better say, HAPPY!
Everybody present, learned something that day.

Meanwhile, back to me.

I was invited to speak to a Bible Study group that included about 70 percent women. The topic was about Rahab.  I pointed out that she was good at her trade as well as showing love for her family.
The favor she did for the two spies (Exodus Chapter 2) led to the liberation of her family.  She negotiated to get this assurance from the two spies.

Well, I had some time left on the clock, so I told the story of Tamar, who was Judah's daughter-in-law.  She was a smart person.  She was able to get something from Judah that was more important than money.  In fact it saved her life ( Read Genesis).

So, when I considered the action of several women in the Bible, I stated that women are not dumb.
The class suddenly got quiet. Then almost in unison, they said that of course, women are not dumb.

Well, I mused, I said the right thing, but I said it the wrong way.

If I would have said that women are smart ( opposite of dumb) the reception would have been different.
See, it is not always what you say, instead it is how you say it.

The good news is they all understood my point.

Well, that's part of practicing public speaking, and after all these years, I'll just keep on practicing.

Miracles Are Real: Lady on bike hit by SUV, leaves scene without any visable injuries

Article 19, Volume 5
Miracles

We read in the old testament of the Bible that Daniel was put in the lion's den and walked away the next morning without any injuries. God sealed the mouth of the lions so that they could not do any harm to him. (Daniel 6 chapter).

Also, we read in the Bible about the three Hebrew boys who were cast in the fiery fire in the furnace, and the next morning they came out of the furnace without any injuries.

Many persons believe those stories, but they don't believe that such miracles or blessings can happen today. I believe that whatever miracles God performed in the past, he can perform like, similar, or even greater miracles today at time or place.

Well, let us fast forward to today.  In October 2014, a very devout Christian lady was riding her bike in the city of Fairfax, Virginia.

She came to a very busy intersection, stopped, waited for the light to change, and proceeded on her bike at the appropriate time across the street.

Before she could get across the street a big SUV made a right turn on the red light and hit her. There was a large bang.  People hopped out of their cars, some of them fearing the worse, went running to the scene to check her out and do whatever they could to help.

When they got to the point of impact, she was just standing there without a scratch. She uttered the words, "that SUV hit me." Also, she could be heard thanking God for saving her.

A man, I surmise, who had jumped out of his car, ran to the point of impact, looked, and shouted out in a loud voice, "It is a miracle, I saw it with my own eyes!"

While all of this was going on, the lady was just standing there, holding on to her bike, with no visible sign of injury, giving praise and thanks to God.

She checked herself out, and no injury whatever was found  or seen on her, because she believed in her God, the true and everlasting God.

Somebody, I visualize, called the Rescue Squad. But the lady made it clear that she was fine and did not need to go to the hospital.

After about eight minutes, she thanked the gathered throng who had offered assistance. Then she told the driver of the SUV that she didn't need any information from him.

Without any further discussion, she hopped on her bike, and proceeded to her destination. No, she didn't turn around and go back home.

God is good. Just like He saved Daniel in the lion's den He saved this dedicated Christian woman from any harm or injury when she was hit by that vehicle.

God is real, God is good!

Who is that lady?  An active member of Warner Baptist. Name withheld by request.

The prophet gave him assurance that everything was going to be all right.

The Assyrians were defeated.

Penny Ford, featured soloist for Women's Ministry Annual Day at Warner Baptist

Article 16 Volume 5                                                                     Sunday, November 9, 2014

Penny Ford Inspires Congregation through Songs and Praise

Warner Baptist women celebrated their annual day by featuring Penni Ford in concert.

Penny was outstanding.  She kept the congregation engaged the whole service.  She started with a song called, "Testify".  This selection got the congregation on their feet.

She performed the second selection, "I can't give up now, came too far from where I started from" without the benefit of music, because the audio system just wouldn't work for that song. But that turned out to be a blessing in disguise because she was able to deliver the song without music.  The congregation joined in to help enhance the delivery.

The soloist last song was, "This is your season".  Again, the congregation was on their feet, clapping their hands, and shouting out words of praise to God.

After, remarks were made by Sister Denise Britford, president of the Women Ministry and Pastor Matthew J. Pearson.

It was a well spent afternoon.

(Penny's birth name is Penni Lajuan Ford.  The name of her ministry is Transformed to Praise.  She is the daughter of Aileen Ford).

Hoshea Reigns Over Israel: Enough Bad is Enough

What is the meaning of "Fear the Lord?"
