Pub 24, Volume 3                                                                Sunday, November 3, 2013

Rev. Augustus Henderson was the guest preacher for Warner Baptist Annual Deacon's Day on Sunday, November 3, 2013
** Before Rev. Henderson really got into his message, he had the congregation on their feet!!

He used Galatians 6:9 for scripture, and his text was, "Don't be weary of the work"

Reverend Henderson delivered a timely and uplifting message. He encouraged the workers for Christ to keep on working for the Lord. He was letting the congregation know that they may face obstacles, so what, keep on working. Don't give up.

The Christian Way Chorus rendered some beautiful selections that included, "Jesus, You are the center of my life" and I'm so glad Jesus lifted me." Also, "Glad I got Jesus down in my heart"

The Worship Leader was Deacon Andrew Parker of Oakland Baptist, Alexandria, VA. He did a wonderful job. Deacon Parker announced that he would be going on a missionary trip to Haiti this week.

Deacon Ron Hampton, Mt Pleasant Baptist, Alexandria read the scripture and prayer was offered by Deacon Earl Adams of WBC.

Deacon Laurence Bradby extended the welcome and Deacon Larry Johnson of Christian Way gave the response.

Deacon Kavin Owens, Christian Way Baptist gave the 'Reminder to Deacons' address.

The Warner Baptist Culinary Ministry prepared and served the meal between worship services. As always, there was plenty of food and then some. The meal was delicious and well prepared. Thanks to the Culinary Ministry.

Amen.

** Well, he sort of had everybody on their feet in a sense.  Before he got into his message, he asked the congregation to stand for a few seconds and sit back down.

Rev. Martin T. Pickett, Pastor of First Baptist, Merrifield, Virginia: Preacher for Warner Baptist Church's 93rd Anniversary on Monday, October 14, 2013

93rd Anniversary of Warner Baptist Celebration - 2nd Day

The guest preacher tonight was Reverend Martin T. Pickett pastor of First Baptist, Merrifield, VA

He used 2 Corinthians 12: 1-9 for scripture

Rev. Pickett  sermon was based on three points:

1. Revelation - Emphasis was put on how God reveals things to us that is beyond our comprehension. But there is a reason and purpose behind it.  We should enjoy life now. Yesterday is gone and we don't know about tomorrow. So, enjoy today.

2. Expectation - Expect good things but remember that there may be some thorns you have to cope with. They just don't go away. (Making reference to Paul's ordeal in the New Testament).Still, you have to work through them and press on.  None of us are exempt from trouble in our lives.

3. Exhortation - Despite the pain and barriers we encounter, He encourages us to keep moving forward. Sometimes it may seem like you are stuck, but the things you be doing can be preparing you for even a greater mission. Pain or no pain, keep stay focus on moving forward and working for the Lord. Amen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sermon was delivered with authority, and that was evident by the congregation open expressions of thanks.

Rev. Pickett said that he hasn't preached on a Monday night in a long time. But he made an exception tonight.

Well, maybe, Warner Baptist will invite him back for another Monday night sermon. I mean, that might be his best night.

                                                          Bible Study Class

Tuesday, July 30, 2013 will be the final night of Bible Study for the Summer session.

Our three weeks of study in the Gospel of Mark has been revealing and inspirational.

We virtually feel like we were walking in the crowd as Jesus went from city to city. We felt as though we witness many of His miracles and healings.

In Lesson 4, we are looking forward to getting a better understanding of Jesus teaching through parables. We will be studying the 4th Chapter of Mark. Jesus could really teach.

We invite you to come out and join us in the final Summer session. The class starts at 7:00 p.m.

Warner Baptist Bible Study Unlimited: Special Summer Session on the Gospel of Mark, Beginning July 9, 2013 at 7 p.m.

Article 14, Volume 3                                                                     July 8, 2013

Traveling with Jesus on His Earthly Mission

The Gospel of Mark is described as a book of action.. It is primarily about what Jesus did.instead of what he said. In this Gospel we will see Jesus as a person and servant. We will travel with him from town to town, and place to place and vicariously be in the crowd to witness and comment on his works.

John Mark is the author of this book. It is believed that he was an attendant and writer for the Apostle Peter. This Gospel was written primarily for to inspire the Christians in Rome. Whereas, the Gospel of Matthews was written primarily for the Jews.

It is believed that this book was written between 55-65 A.D.  It is also regarded by many scholars to be the first written book of the four Gospels.

We are going to use a map for our journey.

We plan to have four classes, one a week, beginning Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 7 p.m.

All you need to bring is your Bible. If you don't have one we will provide you with one.  So really, all you need to bring is yourself.

See you in class.

Warner Baptist Members are Anchoring Down for Homecoming Day on July 14, 2013

Homecoming day is a joyous occasion at Warner Baptist. Many former members, families, friends community residents and others come out for this annual celebration.

The pastor generally preaches and the mass choir sing at the 11 a.m. service.

After the service everyone is invited to the fellowship hall to exchange greetings, addresses and of course enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our outstanding Culinary Ministry.

After the fellowship period, everybody is invited  to return to the main sanctuary for the afternoon service.at 3 p.m.

Rev. Gregory Spurlock, pastor of Oak Grove Baptist in Sterling, Virginia will be the guest preacher. This dynamic young preacher is from Chester, Virginia. He was called to pastor at Oak Grove Baptist in 2011.

He is recognized, and rightly so, as a preacher, father, husband, leader, teacher and man of God. I believe he is going to be fired up and ready to go when he gets here. Just be present so you can watch and see for yourself.

Rev Spurlock will be accompanied by members of his church.

I am looking forward to being there and greeting some of my old friends and having a wonderful day in rendering praises and thanks to God for his blessings. How about you? Will you be there?

In conclusion, "Homecoming services are generally more joyous than home going services. So let us strive to greet each other more often between the services." (geb, Collection of Thoughts 101).

Usher's Day Celebration

Warner Baptist ushers celebrated their annual usher's day on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the church.  Rev. Rodney Teal, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist, Washington, D. C. was the guest preacher for the occasion. He was accompanied by his church's Mass Choir and several members.

.Rev. Teal used Proverbs 3:5-6 for his scripture. His text was "On the Right Road"

The gist of his sermon is presented below:

In his sermon he encouraged the congregation to trust God. If you do that, then you can travel on the right road. You must believe Jesus is the right entrance to getting on the right road and to success in life. Believe and trust. God will deliver.

Consult God in decision making.  Try and trust God and He will make a way regardless of the situation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Jerusalem Mass Choir rendered some beautiful spirit filled songs that included the following:

"Gonna Have a Good Time"
"My God is Awesome"
"On the Right Road"
"I Surrender All"

I tell you, the folks were standing and clapping with joy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, we had the renowned, "Virginia Ushers March" by the ushers. They were stepping and marching on key.  It was a beautiful sight to see.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The worship leader was Olympus Richardson, from Shocco Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton, N.C. He was introduced by his brother, Cornell Richardson. Evelyn Jordan, from Macedonia Baptist read the scripture. The Welcome was extended by Taylor Tripp (Junior Usher) and the response was expressed by Sis. Jerdleen Boffman, ICUA Distrist #1 President.

The prayer was rendered by Deacon Elijah Williams of Warner Baptist.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Kitchen Ministry, lead by Sister Shirley Saunders provided a tasty fried and baked chicken meal. As usual the food had that down home touch.  We thought we had too much food, but as it turned out we barely had enough. But the good news is: Everybody got something to eat. Nope, Warner Baptist don't run of food. If we do, we'll go out and get some more.  Everybody eats at Warner Baptist when meals are served.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remarks were made by Sister Inez Addison, president of the senior ushers, Cornelius Turner, Jr, president of the junior ushers.and Pastor Matthew J. Pearson.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a wonderful service.

Congratulations to the Warner Baptist Church ushers for providing a top notch service another year.

Night by Night Report on Revival Services

Tonight will be the third night of Warner Baptist's annual 5 night revival services. The Revivalist this year is Reverend Eugene Pearson, pastor of Mt Pleasant Baptist, Aldie, Virginia.

 Monday, May 13, 2013

Rev. Pearson used Acts 5: 22-39 for his scripture. His topic was "An Unstoppable God."
The guest choir was from Laurel Grove Baptist in Alexandria, VA

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Rev Pearson used Galatians 6: 7-10 for scripture reference. His topic was "Keep at it."
The music was provided by a choir from 2nd Baptist, Clifton, VA

He delivered a soul stirring message. Some of the key points of his message were:

    a.  Good results from our works and endeavors take time.

    b.  It takes time for good marriages to evolve

    c.  It takes time to raise good children.

    d.  People try to dilute the Word of God. They can't.  (Because it is what it is and they can't change it).

    e.  The harvest is always greater than the seed.

    f.  Plant good and you will reap good.  Plant evil and you will reap evil.

   g.   Everything we say and do is a seed. So, be careful of what you say and do.

I encourage you to come on out tonight and hear the word for yourself,  So far this week the preacher is in a special zone.  Will I see you tonight?

Thursday, May 16, 2013                             Revival

Music was provided by Warner Baptist Mass Choir
Scripture: II Kings 3: 1 -20     Text:  "Revival through Songs"

The preacher put emphasis on verse 15.  That is the verse where Elisha asked for a musician. But the main point of the whole chapter is how God made a way for water to come for the men and animals when it appeared impossible in the sight of man.  God told Elisha to tell the men to dig ditches, though there were no clouds or sign of rain in sight.  After they dug the ditches, God made it possible for the ditches to be filled with water.

Thus, the men, cattle and animals had water to drink. After drinking the water, they were able to continue on their mission.

Glory be to God. He can make a way.

Friday is the last night.  I recommend that you come on out and hear, what I believe, will be another good message.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 17, 2013                                             Revival

Music was provided by the Mt Pleasant Baptist Male Chorus of Aldie, Virginia

Scripture:  Hebrews 12: 1-2    Text:  "Stay in the Race"

The preacher encouraged the congregation to stay focus on Jesus and keep their eyes on the the goal. Eternal life.
If Jesus was compassionate and forgiving, then the followers must be also.( If you say you want to be like Jesus, then in your daily walk you must do the things (that are within your power) that Jesus did).

He mentioned the hard times our fore parents endured in slavery. Despite it all, they kept their trust in God. (this brief dissertation was good and on a historical date (May 17) in the Civil Rights movement. If you don't know, look it up or ask somebody).

So, as we journey through life, just keep on running and telling somebody about the goodness of God.
Stay in the race! don't give up!

I am especially happy for Brionne.  She just hung in there and did what she had to do to graduate. Her determination to complete the journey should be an inspiration to other potential graduates who just quit along the way and never go back to school.

She is the daughter of  Trustee Willie (Barry) and Deaconess Sharon Goode.

We congratulate Brionne!
